William Nanda Bissell grew up in Delhi, and after completing his B.A. from the US, he returned to India to start an artisans’ co-operative in rural Rajasthan. The experience of running a co-operative, traveling through much of rural India and, later, joining the business his father started, building it into one of the world’s largest craft based marketing organisations and one of India’s favourite brands, has given him a unique perspective into challenges confronting India.

As Managing Director of Fabindia, which works with over 40,000 crafts people throughout the country, he has travelled through much of rural and urban area, and seen the problems faced by the people of the country.

This book is a result of that journey.
